DJI, a China-based unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) manufacturer has released what it calls the “most powerful computer designed for drones.” The Manifold is an embedded computer equipped with a quad-core ARM Cortex A-15 processor.
The computer “enables developers to transform aerial platforms into truly intelligent flying robots that can perform complex computing tasks and advanced image processing literally on the fly,” according to the manufacturer.
The Manifold packs the processing power of a PC graphics card and supports DirectX and OpenGL, allowing aerial platforms to process high resolution images in real time. It can be deployed for use in artificial intelligence applications, such as computer vision and deep learning. This allows aerial platforms to sense the surrounding environment, and also identify objects and respond in an instantaneously, according to DJI.
