Bank of America said Monday it would add an extra layer of security to its online banking platform by implementing Intel Online Connect technology. Intel Online Connect technology requires biometric data and is stored only on the user’s device and not on a public server or cloud, providing an additional level of protection for customers.

Bank of America plans to incorporate the security feature into its online banking authentication process in 2018, and will be the first financial services company to offer the technology to customers.

The financial sector is a major target for hackers due to the value associated with the data in that industry, and also the huge sums of money processed daily.
