The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office has published source code on Github for a sample application enabling a user to access and track the status of a trademark. This is an offshoot of the new Federal Source Code Policy, and is in support of the Administration’s Open Government Initiative.

The new published source code on Github enables the user to receive a push notification anytime the status of a trademark application changes. By making the code for this application public, anyone can use it for various projects, improve it, or create an entirely new application, wrote USPTO Chief Technology Officer David Chiles in a blog post.

The White House recently launched Code.gov, a repository for government source code including sites such as Vote.gov, Vets.gov and Data.gov.
