smart reply

To further consolidate its quest for world domination, Google now wants to handle your email for you by applying insight gleaned from its machine learning and AI systems. Google today introduced Smart Reply, a new feature aimed at automatically answering your emails.

Smart Reply will scan your inbox and apply metrics gathered using artificial intelligence to present short replies to targeted emails, according to a blog post by Google software engineer, Bálint Miklós on the official Gmail blog.

Smart Reply will suggest up to three responses based on the emails you get. For those emails that only need a quick response, “it can take care of the thinking and save precious time spent typing,” per Google. As for the emails that require a bit more thought, Smart Reply will give you a “jump start” so you can respond right away.

The feature will roll out later this week on both Google Play and the App Store in English.
