VTech, an electric toy maker, suffered a cyber-attack in November when servers holding customer information were breached by hackers. As a consequence, information belonging to over six million people was compromised.
During the attack, servers used to support VTech’s Learning Lodge app were breached, these servers enable registered customers download content, such as e-books and games, to their handheld devices.
The Learning Lodge database contained email addresses, names, IP numbers, encrypted passwords and other personal data.
Affected customers include individuals from the UK, US, China, France and other countries.
This revelation is just the latest in a string of recent cyber-attacks just this year alone. Recent data suggests that cybercrime is on the rise, with increasing targeted attacks on businesses, organizations and even individuals.
