In what may be a push to get customers to sign up for its Prime subscription services, Amazon has increased the free shipping minimum for non-Prime orders to $49. This is in contrast to the previous minimum of $35 which was introduced in 2013.

The main selling point of Amazon Prime is the two-day free shipping, in addition to unlimited cloud storage, video and music streaming, free eBooks and other draws. While the $18 increase might be disappointing news for those looking for cheap shipping options, customers who purchase up to $25 worth of books will still be eligible for free shipping.
